POKEMON Trainers Learn About Events in Current Games and the Adventures That Await in POKEMON SCARLET and POKEMON VIOLET
The Pokémon Company just held a Pokémon Presents today. During the stream, fans learned a bit more about the Pokémon World Championships 2022 which will introduce events for Pokémon Unite and Pokémon GO. There were also announcements for those two games as well as Pokémon Cafe ReMix and Pokémon Masters EX. If you’re interested in those, check out these brief descriptions.
Mysterious lifeforms known as Ultra Beasts have appeared across Pokémon GO Fest 2022 events this year, and it seems that all four Ultra Beasts will be gathering at the Pokémon GO Fest 2022 finale held on August 27. The finale is an online global event which can be enjoyed by Trainers wherever they are in the world.
Pokémon UNITE celebrates its one-year anniversary by introducing Buzzwole to Unite Battles as well as a new type of quick battle, Pika Party, beginning today, August 3 at 5:00pm PT.
In the Pokémon Café ReMix game, players will have another chance at recruiting Mewtwo to join their staff. Starting today, there will also be a special campaign for players to get Latias on their staff.
Pokémon Masters EX is approaching its three-year anniversary. Players can get ready to celebrate with the upcoming debut of the Trainer Lodge.
Most people tuning into this event were most interested to learn more about the upcoming games Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. You can watch the entire Pokémon Presents at the bottom of the page.
A fair number of details have been revealed for Scarlet and Violet. Fans got to see quite a bit of the Paldea region including parts of Mesagoza, the region’s largest city. In the city is where players will find their school which is either Naranja Academy or Uva Academy depending on which game you’re playing. It’s also been revealed that the Pokédex in the game will be an app loaded onto the Rotom Phone, the map app will show the entirety of Paldea as well as your current location, and more.
There was also a little more shared about multiplayer. As has become standard, fans can trade and battle with others across the world. This time it’s through the Poké Portal. The more exciting part for many is the Union Circle which will let up to three of your friends join you in your adventures in the same space.
A few more characters were also revealed including the director of the academy Clavell, your biology/homeroom teacher Jacq, and more.
Clavell
He acts as the director of the academy and will teach the player many things about their school.
Jacq
Mr. Jacq is very knowledgeable about Pokémon biology and is the developer of the Pokédex app for the Rotom Phone. He’ll also be the player’s homeroom teacher.
Arven
Arven is an upperclassman at the academy. He’s good at cooking and is researching healthy recipes that can help Pokémon feel better.
Penny
Penny has a bit of a shy personality, and for some reason, she doesn’t seem to come to the academy very often.
Gym Leader of the Glaseado Gym, Grusha
Grusha used to be a professional snowboarder, but he is now the Gym Leader of the Glaseado Gym full time. He is an Ice-type specialist who has Cetitan as his partner.
It looks like the team saw a lot of success with Raid Battles as they’re making a return albeit with some slight changes. Tera Raid Battles allow up to 4 players to fight a Terastallized wild Pokémon (a bit more on that later). Some of those updates compared to Raids in Shield and Sword are that these Tera Raids are timed and you can “continue attacking seamlessly without having to wait for other Trainers to choose their actions.”
Going back to Terastallized Pokémon. There’s a phenomenon in the Paldea region that makes Pokémon look like crystals or gems. It’s Paldea’s version of Gigantamax. When a Pokémon Terastallizes, they’ll get a Tera Jewel above their head that’s like a crown and they’ll get new attacks and sometimes, even a new type. Moves that are the same type as the Tera Type will also get a boost. A Pokémon can Terastallize once per battle and it lasts until the end of the battle. You’ll need a rechargeable Tera Orb in order to Terastallize your Pokémon as well. Tera Orbs recharge by touching crystals overflowing with Terastal energy or by visiting a Pokémon Center. Oh, and for some Pokémon it appears some Tera Types will be more rare which made me think of Hidden Abilities and the like.
In Scarlet and Violet there will be three storylines for you to go through including the traditional Gym Challenge. It was revealed that there’s no set order for the Gyms which raises a few questions. Will the Gyms just have level scaling to match the levels of your Pokémon? It is nice to see them experiment and open the world up more though. Hopefully it goes well.
Let’s talk about actual Pokémon that trainers will encounter. First, the Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon were revealed to change forms to also serve as vehicles. They basically have a motorcycle mode, jet ski mode, and glider mode. I’m not sure how I feel about this. It feels ridiculous.
Sprinting Build / Drive Mode: Players can ride Sprinting Build Koraidon or Drive Mode Miraidon, making it easier to traverse the expansive Paldea region more freely.
Swimming Build / Aquatic Mode: Players will be able to jump into rivers, lakes and vibrant oceans to approach the Pokémon that live there or cross perilous waters in a snap by riding Swimming Build Koraidon or Aquatic Mode Miraidon.
Gliding Build / Glide Mode: Players can jump from mountains, towering cliffs or tall buildings and glide toward their destination.
Of course, there were other Pokémon shown off like Paldean Wooper which is a brown Wooper with bones sticking out of its head like a skull and crossbones design. There’s also Cetitan which is a Tera Whale and my new best friend Fidough which is a Fairy-type puppy.
Fidough
Fidough’s skin has elastic qualities and is both firm and soft at the same time. When these Pokémon become excited, they intimidate their opponents by puffing up their bodies to appear bigger. Fidough ferments things in its vicinity using the yeast in its breath. The yeast is useful for cooking, so this Pokémon has been protected by people since long ago.
Category: Puppy Pokémon
Type: Fairy
Height: 1'
Weight: 24 lbs.
Ability: Own Tempo
Paldean Wooper
In ancient times, Wooper lived underwater in the Paldea region. After losing in a struggle for territory, it seems they began living in bogs on land. To keep from drying out while living on land, they began to cover their bodies with a poisonous film. Their gills have hardened thanks to living on land for so long. Their bodies are heavy and they move slowly, but they can protect themselves by shooting powerful poisonous liquid from their gills.
Category: Poison Fish Pokémon
Type: Poison/Ground
Height: 1'4"
Weight: 24.3 lbs.
Ability: Poison Point / Water Absorb
Cetitan
Cetitan need to have tough muscles to be able to support their immense bodies, and physical attacks using their bodies have incredible power. They also migrate around the snowy regions, protected by a thick layer of fat.
Category: Tera Whale Pokémon
Type: Ice
Height: 14'9"
Weight: 1,543.2 lbs.
Ability: Thick Fat / Slush Rush
Other classic Pokémon seen include Growlithe, Arcanine, Luxray, Gyarados, Murkrow, and much more. Pokémon Scarlet trainers will have exclusive access to Larvitar and Stonjourner while Pokémon Violet will exclusively hold Bagon and Eiscue.
Pre-orders are now open on the Nintendo eShop and at your favorite retailers like GameStop (affiliate link). Anyone who pre-orders will get a special in-game Pikachu that knows the move Fly and has the Flying Tera Type. This one is really fun to me because it looks like when Pikachu has a Flying Tera Type he becomes Balloon Pikachu from back in the day! You’ll just need to use the Mystery Gift feature via Internet by February 28, 2023. Also, if you download the digital version from the eShop by February 28, 2023, you’ll get the Adventure Set via a serial code which contains 10 Potion, 5 Full Heal, 3 Revive, 3 Ether, 1 Rare Candy, and 1 Nugget. Not bad. The final bonus is if you purchase the Scarlet and Violet Double Pack which will come with two codes (one per game) with each code rewarding you with 100 Poké Balls.
These games are looking great. The environments still seem a little empty, but the character and Pokémon models seem smoother and sharper than before. Paldea seems like a great new region and the new Terastal stuff seems solid. I still wish there was a local multiplayer option so I could just play with my family on the couch, but having online multiplayer is sure to be awesome. I also can’t wait to see the final forms of Sprigatito, Quaxly, and Fuecoco. I’m excited to explore Paldea when Scarlet and Violet launch on the Nintendo Switch on November 18.
