POKÉMON Goes Full Aardman in Awesome Trailer for New Pichu and Sirfetch’d Series
Pokémon is getting the Aardman treatment, and watching Pichu and Sirfetch’d stumble through the Galar Region in handcrafted stop-motion looks like it could be ridiculously fun.
The first trailer has arrived for Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, a new animated series created by Aardman, the acclaimed animation studio known for its distinctive stop-motion work.
The project comes as part of a new global distribution deal between Disney+ and The Pokémon Company, bringing the Pokémon franchise together with Aardman for a very different kind of adventure.
This time, Sirfetch’d and Pichu are paired up for a journey across the Galar Region, where they’ll attempt to protect other Pokémon and apparently cause plenty of trouble along the way.
The official synopsis reads: “Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown where peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them,”
The trailer gives us a great first look at Aardman’s clay versions of Pichu and Sirfetch’d as they climb a hill and gaze out across Galar. From there, things get much more chaotic as the unlikely partners encounter and battle other Pokémon, including their primary antagonist, Escavalier.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, talked about what Aardman brings to the franchise, saying: “Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today.
“This new series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu brings Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective to this beloved world, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the characters they know and love. Along with Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, these series are powerful additions to Disney XD and Disney+.”
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is directed by Tom Parkinson, with James Young serving as Model Making Creative Lead at Aardman.
Seeing Pokémon translated into Aardman’s handmade clay-animation world is a cool change of pace for the franchise. Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu will debut on Disney XD and stream on Disney+ in 2027.
