POWER RANGERS GREEN Comic Brings Tommy Oliver Back For One More Morphin’ Mission
This year is shaping up to be a wild ride for fans of the Power Rangers universe. Between multiple new series on the horizon and a live-action project in development for Disney+, the franchise is strong.
But, one project in particular is grabbing attention, and that’s Power Rangers Green, a new comic series that puts the spotlight back on the legendary Green Ranger, Tommy Oliver.
Thanks to an update from Penguin Random House, we have a clearer idea of what this story is bringing to the table, along with a first look at the cover. And honestly, it sounds like it’s tapping into something longtime fans are going to love.
This story picks up with Tommy long after his Ranger days are behind him. The morpher has been shelved, the battles are over, and he’s settled into a quieter life with his family. At least, that’s how it starts.
Things take a turn when someone from his past suddenly shows up and pulls him back toward the life he thought he left behind. Whether he’s still capable of stepping back into that role is a big question hanging over the story.
Tommy Oliver isn’t just any Ranger. He’s arguably the most iconic character in the entire franchise, and bringing him back into focus always comes with a certain level of hype. This also isn’t the first time we’ve seen an older version of Tommy dealing with life after the suit.
Fans might remember BOOM! Studios’ graphic novel Soul of the Dragon, which jumped decades into the future and explored a retired Tommy balancing family life with one last mission.
That story leaned heavily into his role as a father and mentor, especially when his son JJ was in danger. He still had the Master Morpher tucked away, and when things got serious, he didn’t hesitate to suit up again, even with the physical toll it took on him.
Power Rangers Green seems to be playing in similar territory, but with its own twist. This time, the call back to action doesn’t appear to be directly tied to his family, which opens the door to all kinds of possibilities.
Tommy has crossed paths with countless allies and enemies over the years, so that unexpected visitor could be just about anyone. That mystery alone makes this setup pretty exciting.
Here’s the official description of the series: “He’s the last Power Ranger on Earth… but that doesn’t mean he’s alone. The world we know is long gone. Tommy Oliver has put away his morpher and settled into a quiet life with his strange little family.
“But one day, an unexpected visitor from his past arrives on his doorstep and challenges him to take up the hero’s mantle once more. Can he relive the past with this unexpected ally? Will the Green Power Ranger finally return?
“Go on an unexpected journey with Power Rangers veteran writer Paul Allor (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe) and up-and-coming artist Gustaffo Vargas (ALTIPLANO, Olympos: Nullhunter), as they explore a reenvisioned future for Tommy Oliver and the fate of the world as we know it!”
The creative team has a solid mix of experience and fresh energy. That combination could give this version of Tommy’s world a unique edge while still honoring what fans already love about the character.
Power Rangers Green #1 is set to hit comic shops on August 5, 2026, and it could be one of the more intriguing entries in this next wave of Power Rangers storytelling.
