Present-Day Adaptation of Classic Musical OKLAHOMA! Being Adapted into Series for TV
Skydance Television has announced they have partnered with the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization and Concord to bring us a reboot of the longtime acclaimed Broadway musical and classic movie, Oklahoma!, but this time is will be a present day TV adaptation of the show. The series will be co-written and co-directed by John Lee Hancock, known for writing and directing The Blind Side, and for directing Saving Mr. Banks and The Founder with co-writer Bekah Brunstetter (American Gods, This Is Us).
Senior Vice President of Skydance Television, Bill Bost will oversee production, and President of Skydance, Marcy Ross, had this to say about the project:
"Oklahoma! is one of the greatest musicals of all time, and we're honored The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization and Concord have entrusted us to produce this ambitious television series," commented Marcy Ross, President, Skydance Television. "Skydance has found the perfect architects to create this world with John Lee Hancock and Bekah Brunstetter, who will honor the spirit of the original show while creating a unique and contemporary story."
There are no specific details yet on how they will make the story of Oklahoma! present day. I have no idea what they have in mind, but I will give it a try, because I love the musical. Some original Rodgers and Hammerstein music will be used in the show, and I’m sure we will get a whole new slew of songs as well. I’m interested to see where they will go with it. Does this sound like an interesting project to you?
