PRETTY IN PINK Returning to Theatres This Valentine's Day to Celebrate the Film's 40th Anniversary
Paramount Pictures and Fathom Entertainment are bringing the 1986 classic Pretty In Pink back to theatres in celebration of the film’s 40th anniversary. The special release will also include a bonus featurette with the film’s director Howard Deutch, and will have nationwide showtimes from February 13th through the 16th.
Since the release of Pretty in Pink on February 28, 1986, the coming-of-age comedy has been hailed as one of the most defining films of its time, becoming a classic alongside other John Hughes-written films including The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Sixteen Candles.
Teen icon Molly Ringwald and Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy led the beloved film as Andie and Blane, with memorable supporting performances from Harry Dean Stanton as Jack Walsh, Jon Cryer as Duckie Dale, Annie Potts as Iona and James Spader as Steff McKee.
The movie follows Andie, a creative and hardworking girl from the wrong side of the tracks who falls for the popular guy, and while he falls for her too, he has to decide whether he can venture from his life of privilege and peer pressure to follow his heart.
This was my favorite movie growing up. I had a pink bedroom and an email address paying homage to the film. After watching it as an adult, I agreed with the book’s ending, in which Andie ends up with Duckie, who really worshiped her.
But now, I am back on the train of thought that the heart wants what it wants, even if Blaine is a coward and gaslighter and is named after a major appliance. Andie deserves her first love experience, and even though Duckie was cute and fun, she deserved to have the romance she wanted, even if it wasn’t built to last.
Tickets for the Pretty in Pink 40th Anniversary are available now at Fathom Entertainment and participating theater box offices.
