Preview Art From THE ART OF THE IRON GIANT Book

The Iron Giant is my number one favorite animated film of all time. To me, everything about that movie is absolute perfection. We’ll never see anything quite like that again. It was one of the last great traditionally animated films before CG animation took over the business.

After all of these years, The Iron Giant is finally getting an art book! Usually animated films get a “art-of” book before the film even opens, but it’s been 17 years since The Iron Giant was released.

The Art of The Iron Giant was written by former Animation Magazine editor Ramin Zahed and will be released by Insight Editions. According to Cartoon Brew:

The 160-page book promises lots of development artwork and storyboards that are standard for these type of books, as well as new interviews with Bird and other key members of the film’s creative team. The book will also include artwork from the newly restored scenes in the “signature edition” that debuted last year.

Below you’ll find some preview images from the book giving us a little tease of what it entails. Before you get to that, here’s the official description of the book:

Director Brad Bird's (The Incredibles, Ratatouille) acclaimed film The Iron Giant is considered by fans, critics, and animation historians to be one of the best hand-drawn animated features of the past fifty years. This beautifully illustrated book revisits the classic, with unprecedented access to rarely seen development art and storyboards from the Warner Bros. archives.
