Prime Video Orders Animated Comedy Series ODD JOBS From SOLAR OPPOSITES Team
Amazon Prime Video has officially ordered a new animated comedy called Odd Jobs, a future-set series that comes from Mike McMahan and Dominic Dierkes, the creative duo behind Solar Opposites, and it already feels like a natural next evolution of their off-kilter comedic voice.
Set in the year 2127, Odd Jobs drops viewers into what’s described as an extreme late-stage capitalist hellscape. The story follows a reluctant crew of gig workers traveling across the neo-Midwest, taking on the strangest and most dangerous tasks demanded by an app literally called Odd Jobs.
It’s a grim setup with massive comedic potential, especially coming from creators who know how to mix sharp satire with absurd character-driven humor.
McMahan and Dierkes are executive producing the series, alongside Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina from animation powerhouse Titmouse. CBS Studios is producing.
In a statement that perfectly matches the tone of the project, McMahan and Dierkes said: “While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled through a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future.
“We witnessed bizarre and grotesque portents about where humanity is heading. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re thrilled to turn them into an animated show.”
McMahan and Dierkes recently wrapped up their long-running collaboration on Solar Opposites, which concluded after six seasons in October 2025. McMahan co-created that series, while Dierkes joined as a writer before eventually stepping into an executive producer role.
Their creative chemistry has been proven over time, and Odd Jobs feels like a chance for them to stretch even further.
McMahan’s animation resume is stacked with fan-favorite projects. He created Star Trek: Lower Decks for Paramount+, which ran for five seasons, and he’s also known for his work on Rick and Morty. In 2024, it was announced that he and Joe Chandler were developing an animated series for Comedy Central based on the classic video game Golden Axe.
Amazon MGM Studios seems fully confident in where this series is headed. Melissa Wolfe, head of animation for the studio, shared her enthusiasm for the project:
“’Odd Jobs’ is sharp, absurd, and laugh-out-loud funny, taking a wildly imaginative look at a future that’s as chaotic as it is entertaining. Mike and Dominic have built a bold, unpredictable world filled with hilarious characters, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with CBS Studios and Titmouse to bring this new comedy to Prime Video audiences around the world.”
Dierkes also brings plenty of comedy credentials to the table outside of Solar Opposites. He’s written for shows like The Mick, Workaholics, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and Unstable. As an actor, his credits include Mystery Team, Community, Parks and Recreation, and Mad Men, which gives him a strong handle on both the writing and performance sides of comedy.
With its dystopian gig economy premise, proven creative team, and Amazon’s continued investment in adult animation, Odd Jobs could be a lot of fun!
