Prime Video’s Animated Comedy KEVIN Casts Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza, Whoopi Goldberg, and Amy Sedaris
Prime Video is loading up on comedic talent for its upcoming adult animated series Kevin, which is a quirky, heartfelt comedy from Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert that promises to mix breakups, existential dread, and cats into something genuinely special.
Plaza, who co-wrote and executive produces the series, will also lend her voice alongside Jason Schwartzman, Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, Aparna Nancherla, Gil Ozeri, and Amy Sedaris.
According to Prime Video, Kevin is “a hilarious and heart-warming story about finding where you belong in the world.” The show is loosely inspired by a real-life breakup — and the cat that got caught in the middle.
“After his human ‘owners’ split, Kevin moves into a pet rescue in Astoria, Queens, where he joins a group of misfit animals who help him figure out what he really wants out of life.
Jason Schwartzman voices Kevin, a neurotic tuxedo cat who decides to leave behind the comfort of his old home for the unpredictable freedom of single life in the big city.
Aubrey Plaza plays Dana, Kevin’s ambitious and career-focused human. Dana ends her relationship thinking she’s doing the mature thing, but she’s completely thrown off when Kevin decides to strike out on his own.
Aparna Nancherla brings life to Judy, an endlessly optimistic Scottish Fold kitten at the pet rescue who believes the perfect human is always just around the corner.
John Waters voices Armando, a sleek, sarcastic Persian cat who’s done with humans altogether, preferring the independence of life on his own terms.
Whoopi Goldberg voices Cupcake, a hairless, unpredictable cat with a feral streak. She’s squatting at the rescue purely because it gives her opportunities to scam both humans and animals.
Gil Ozeri plays Seth, the soft-hearted guy who runs the “Furrever Friends” pet rescue, and gets walked over by both his human and animal guests alike.
Amy Sedaris voices Brandi, Seth’s tough-as-nails Shih Tzu who’s clearly the one running the place.
Kevin was created by Plaza and Wengert, with Wengert also serving as showrunner. With this kind of comedic lineup, it’s shaping up to be one of the most original and entertaining animated shows on the way.
Between Plaza’s offbeat humor, Schwartzman’s perfect deadpan delivery, and a cast full of comedic legends, Kevin sounds like the kind of weird, heartfelt show that’ll audiences will enjoy.
