CRIMINAL Trailer Brings Adria Arjona, Emilia Clarke, and Charlie Hunnam Into a Brutal World of Crime
Prime Video has released the first teaser trailer for Criminal, its upcoming crime drama series starring Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, and Emilia Clarke.
Based on the acclaimed comic book series from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, the show looks to deliver a gritty mix of heists, family betrayals, murder, and characters who can't seem to escape their criminal pasts.
The series follows multiple generations of criminal families whose lives are connected by violence and murder. At the center of the story are two childhood friends, Leo Patterson (Hunnam) and Ricky Lawless (Gus Halper), who have very different ideas about their futures.
Leo wants to leave his criminal upbringing behind, while Ricky is determined to live up to the reputation of his father, a legendary outlaw. Things get even more complicated when Ricky's older brother, Tracy (Luke Evans), returns home from the Army, bringing some painful family history along with him.
Caught up in their troubles are Greta (Arjona), a quick-witted car thief with ties to Leo's past, and Mallory (Clarke), Ricky's girlfriend, who worries about just how far he'll go to survive.
The teaser offers a taste of the violence and dangerous relationships driving the story. With gunfights, robberies, complicated romances, and plenty of bad decisions, Criminal looks like the kind of crime thriller where getting out alive might be the biggest victory anyone can hope for.
The multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novels have earned a devoted following for their hardboiled storytelling and morally complicated characters. Bringing that world to television has some serious potential, especially with Brubaker directly involved in shaping the adaptation.
Brubaker, whose previous television writing credits include Too Old to Die Young and Batman: Caped Crusader, created the series and serves as co-showrunner alongside Jordan Harper.
The cast also includes Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison, John Hawkes, and Logan Browning. The recurring and guest cast includes Michael Mando, Garrett Hedlund, Patrick J. Adams, Pat Healy, Taylor Selé, Aliyah Camacho, Marvin Jones III, Michael Xavier, Dominic Burgess, Chris Diamantopoulos, Lawrence Kao, Katie Stevens, John Pyper-Ferguson, Robert Lee Hart, Aina Brei'yon, and Kyle Davis.
Prime Video is taking an interesting approach to the release, splitting the eight-episode first season into two four-episode installments. Part One, titled Coward, premieres on January 13, 2027, followed by Part Two, Lawless, on January 27, 2027. All four episodes of each installment will arrive together.
Criminal looks like it could be a great addition to the genre. The source material gives the creative team plenty to work with, and having Brubaker involved makes this adaptation even more exciting.
