Prime Video’s MR. & MRS. SMITH Season 2 Reportedly Delayed Indefinitely Over Cast Issues

If you were looking forward to Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 on Prime Video, you might want to pump the brakes. According to Deadline, production on the hit spy series has been delayed indefinitely, and the future of the show is now up in the air.

The reason behind the delay? Cast troubles. No official details have been revealed, and Prime Video hasn’t released a statement, leaving fans hanging on what comes next for the series.

Season 2 was set to shake things up in a major way. Mark Eydelshteyn (Anora) and Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) were tapped to take over the lead couple roles from Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, who fronted Season 1.

Over the past few months, there were also plenty of casting rumors floating around, with names like Lily-Rose Depp, Francesca Scorsese, Levon Hawke, Wagner Moura, and Gael García Bernal being mentioned as potential new additions.

Behind the scenes, everything looked like it was moving forward. Back in March, Amazon MGM Studios secured a $22.4 million tax credit from the California Film Commission to relocate production from New York to Los Angeles.

But now Deadline reports that the show is on “indefinite hold,” though sources also mention that co-producer New Regency is still hopeful cameras could roll in early 2026.

There’s also another wrinkle in the mix. Showrunner and co-creator Francesca Sloane recently signed on to write Season 3 of Big Little Lies under an overall deal with HBO, which could keep her pretty busy and potentially delay her return to Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which dropped in 2024, reimagined the 2005 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film of the same name.

The story followed two spies forced into an arranged marriage as part of their missions for a mysterious agency, only to find themselves catching real feelings while dealing with increasingly dangerous assignments.

Right now, the fate of Season 2 is as uncertain as the show’s undercover agents. Fans will just have to wait to see if Prime Video can get things back on track or if Mr. & Mrs. Smith will end up vanishing into the shadows.
