PRINCESS DIARIES 3 Confirmed With the Most Important People on Board

Princess Diaries 3 is finally becoming a reality, and fans of the franchise are pretty excited about it! The original film came out in 2001, and followed the awkward and goofy Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) as she found out she was royalty, and navigated that responsibility while trying to balance her life as a regular teenager as well. We got a follow up to the first film in 2004 with Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, wherein Mia is being prepped to take over her grandmother’s (Julie Andrews) role as the queen, but is told she has to find a husband to help her do it.

These movies are fun, as well as the answer to many little girls fantasies about finding out they are actually a princess and all the royal fun that would go along with it from a child’s point of view. These movies met a fair amount of success in the box office, but I think they have met even more in syndication. I feel like they are on one of the Disney channels monthly at least, but if nothing else is on, I don’t mind tuning in. Especially if my daughter and I are hanging out. They are fun and cute movies.

So the most diehard fans rejoiced after Hathaway was on Watch What Happens Next with Andy Cohen on Thursday night and when asked about a third installment of the franchise, said:

“There is a script for the third movie. I want to do it. Julie wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it.”

The ball had started rolling a few years ago. Just a few months before original director Garry Marshall passed away in July 2016, he told People that he had seen Hathaway and discussed the movie, and it looked like there would be a Princess Diaries 3 set in Manhattan. We don’t know if that will be the direction of the new film, or if Chris Pine will return as the love interest from Princess Diaries 2, but we know a script has been written, so we should know some details soon.
