Producer Jerry Bruckheimer Gives Exciting Update For Fans of Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow
A new sequel in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise has long been brewing at Disney, with a lot of questions about who it will star and what story it will tell.
While reports say that Margot Robbie will lead the female-driven story, many fans have hoped that Johnny Depp’s beloved character Captain Jack Sparrow will also return to the screen.
Depp closed that chapter of his career years ago with some finality, but in recent years, he has seemed to soften to the idea of stepping back into the role that many call their favorite.
While we have had many (non)-updates over the years, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke about the project at D23, and it sounds like it’s finally moving forward. Bruckheimer told Deadline, “we’re talking with Johnny [Depp], we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”
Separate from Bruckheimer, some solid sources also told the outlet that the continuation won’t feel like just the nth tale of Captain Jack Sparrow, rather the next chapter will focus on Margot Robbie’s protagonist with Sparrow as a side character. Essentially, an evolution of the franchise.
The last Pirates movie was the lowest grossing among the films, but with a fresh new take, new stars, and having had a nice long break, I think fans will head back to the theatre to enjoy a return to sea, especially if Jack Sparrow is poised to grace us with his presence. Stay tuned for updates.
