Alec Baldwin's RUST Is Set to Resume Filming With New and Old Crew Members

A new report has come out stating that the Alec Baldwin-led western drama Rust is heading back into production. Over a year ago, the film was shut down after Baldwin fired a prop gun that was unknowingly loaded, which killed the film’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin has since been charged with manslaughter, and production has dealt with multiple lawsuits from former members of the crew against the movie’s producers, leading to an investigation into alleged systemic safety issues on set.

Bianca Cline (Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, American Horror Story) will join the film as its cinematographer in Halyna Hutchins’ stead, according to Rust Movie Productions. A documentary on Hutchins’ life, including her work on Rust, spearheaded by director Rachel Mason and producer Julee Metz, will also commence shooting with the “full support” of the production and Halyna Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, who will serve as an executive producer on both titles.

Additionally, the scene that was being rehearsed when Hutchins was shot has been rewritten, said Melina Spadone, a lawyer for Rust Movie Productions. She declined to comment on the nature of the changes.

The film also stars Travis Fimmel, Brady Noon, Frances Fisher, and Jensen Ackles. Rust was written and directed by Joel Souza. The synopsis reads:

In 1880s Kansas, aging outlaw Harland Rust comes out of hiding to rescue his thirteen-year-old grandson Lucas, after he is sentenced to hang for an accidental murder. Now fugitives, the pair have to outrun both Rust's nemesis, U.S. Marshal Wood Helm, and the vicious bounty hunter Fenton "Preacher" Lang.

The film’s release date is yet to be decided.
