Production on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART TWO Shuts Down Amid Writers' Strike
It’s been reported that production on the sequel Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two has shut down amid the Hollywood writers’ strike. Empire (via /Film) reports that the film is roughly 40 percent completed, but the current strike has stopped things from going further at this time with the report specifically noting that the month-long strike has stopped the film's writer and director Christopher McQuarrie "in his tracks" and marks the biggest delay on the Mission: Impossible films since the 2020 pandemic.
McQuarrie said of the setback, "It's unrelenting. Behind each tsunami is another tsunami. We live in a state of 24-hour tsunami awareness. It's just what we do."
Dead Reckoning Part One is in the can, and set to hit theaters on July 12th. Part Two has a current theatrical release date of June 28, 2024, but we will have to wait and see how far this delay sets production back. It’s one of many films and series that are waiting for the strike to end to be able to move forward, so hopefully it’s resolved quickly. We will keep you updated.
