Promising New Trailer for THE MAZE RUNNER, Plus 10 New Posters
Yahoo posted a new trailer for the upcoming dystopian (are we calling it dystopian?) sci-fi thriller The Maze Runner. It is yet another movie based on a popular YA book trilogy in which a teenage hero defies some kind of authority and survives unbeatable odds, but I actually think this one looks good. It has a Lord of the Flies kind of feel with a strong mystery element, which is a promising start, and I like the deep south, sun-bleached aesthetic. We’ve seen a couple trailers for the movie already, but the new trailer shows a bit more of the “grievers” — strange robots that populate the maze. The studio has also released nine new posters for the film, and they are actually pretty great. I am increasingly convinced that this is a movie I want to see.
When Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape. Based on the best-selling novel by James Dashner.
The Maze Runner is directed by Wes Ball and also stars Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter, Ki Hong Lee, Aml Ameen, and Patricia Clarkson. It finds its way to U.S. theaters on September 19.
