PUSS IN BOOTS 2 is in Development with SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Director Bob Persichetti

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse co-director Bob Persichetti has landed his next big movie gig. DreamWorks Animation has hired him to direct the next installment in the Puss in Boots franchise.

The first Puss in Boots film was a spinoff of the Shrek franchise and it was released in 2011. It was a fun movie and ended up being a big hit, pulling in $550 million worldwide at the box office.

After all this time that has passed I didn’t expect to see a sequel happen, but it looks like DreamWorks Animation still feels that there is a market out there for it.

Persichetti has worked in the animation industry for two decades in a variety of capacities on films with DreamWorks Animation.  He also served as the Head of Story and voiced a role in the original Puss in Boots film, so it seems like he is a solid fit to take Puss in Boots 2. He also just won an Oscar for Into the Spider-Verse.

I assume that Antonio Banderas will return to reprise his role as the charming swashbuckling cat. After all this time do any of you have any interest in watching a Puss in Boots sequel?
