QUARTER CENTURY BONANZA is One of the Final YU-GI-OH! TCG Celebration Sets

Earlier this week (the day I’m writing this), Konami announced a new booster pack for the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game called Quarter Century Bonanza.

This is a weird set that we know very little about, but from what we do know it feels like Rarity Collection III. In the press release it even states that this set “picks up where the Rarity Collection sets left off…”

Why are we not just calling it Rarity Collection III? Oh, because there are “a bunch of new twists!” Let’s talk about those.

Quarter Century Bonanza is set to release on November 8 (November 6 at OTS locations) with each pack costing $5.99. Each pack will contain five cards per pack like the original Rarity Collection set. Using Konami’s language, Slot A will be a guaranteed luxury Secret Rare.

This translates to a Platinum (PSR) or Quarter Century (QCSR). Slots B-E will match Rarity Collection with one Super Rare, two Ultra Rares (with a ⅙ chance of being a “prismatic” Ultimate [PUR] or Collector’s rare [PCR]), and one Secret Rare (with a ¼ chance to be a PSR or QCSR). Honestly, it sounds really good so far.

Now we get to the weird part of this (Note: weird does not mean bad, just strange). Each Quarter Century Bonanza pack will have cards from two unique card pools.

Slot A (the guaranteed luxury Secret Rare) will be from a “200-card nostalgia pool” with Slots B-E coming from “the standard 78-card set.” This first pool will be of cards that Konami believes that we duelists want to see in QCSR before that rarity disappears forever because of the end of the 25th anniversary celebration.

I’m really curious what the card pool will look like since Konami is committed to not reprinting any cards previously released as a QCSR as QCSR again. We’ve already received most of the nostalgia bait as QCSR so it’ll be interesting to say the least. My picks would be Black Luster Soldier cards honestly.

On that note, there’s another twist. While Konami will not be reprinting QCSR cards in QCSR rarity with Quarter Century Bonanza, they will be including some previous QCSR cards in every other rarity in the set.

The three examples we know of are Super Polymerization (QCSR in Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge); Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames (QCSR in Phantom Nightmare); and Diabellstar the Black Witch (QCSR in Age of Overlord).

Does this mean that Promethean Princess and Diabellstar will not be getting reprints in 25th Anniversary Tin: Dueling Mirrors? I’m wondering if this means S:P Little Knight and Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis will also be skipping the tin in favor of Quarter Century Bonanza.

What do you think about the announcement of Quarter Century Bonanza? What cards do you think will be in each of the pools? Why do you think they ditched the Rarity Collection name? I’m very interested to learn more about a week before launch.
