Quentin Tarantino Explains Why David Fincher Is Directing His "Cliff Booth" Sequel Starring Brad Pitt

Director Quentin Tarantino is famously mulling over what his final directorial effort will be, having tossed around several ideas that haven’t come to be, but one film that would have made good sense is the upcoming sequel to his beautiful 2019 masterpiece, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Instead, Tarantino is handing over the reigns to fellow filmmaker David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac) to make the Brad Pitt-starring sequel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth.

Tarantino talked about his decision to hand his script to another capable director in a recent interview with The Church of Tarantino podcast, where he explained:

“I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked. It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.

“I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account.”

In addition to Pitt, the cast now also includes Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Corey Fogelmanis and JB Tadena.

The movie is believed to have scored a $20 million California film-tax credit, and Pitt previously confirmed that filming would begin in July.
