Quentin Tarantino in Talks to Direct Timothy Olyphant in Episodes of JUSTIFIED: CITY PRIMEVAL
Not long ago we learned that FX was developing a revival of the hit series Justified, which will be titled Justified: City Primeval. That announcement came with the news that Timothy Olyphant is set to reprise the role of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in the series.
Well, now it’s being reported that Quentin Tarantino is in talks to direct one or two episodes of the revival! It would be pretty awesome if this actually ended up happening. I would love to see Tarantino jump on this project, and it makes sense that he would want to.
Tarantino and Olyphant previously worked together Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The filmmaker is also a fan of author Elmore Leonard’s work. The series is based on his novels, and this upcoming revival is based on his novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.
Tarantino previously adapted Leonard’s novel Rum Punch into Jackie Brown. He’s also optioned several Leonard titles during his career and has previously talked about possibly directing one of his Westerns, Forty Lashes Less One. U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is a great character for Tarantino to play with and there’s no doubt he could have a lot of fun working on this series.
The next chapter of the story “picks up with Givens eight years after he left Kentucky behind. He now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 14-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind. A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell’s lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught in between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well.”
Dave Andron and Michael Dinner will serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers on the new series, with Dinner also directing. Olyphant will also executive produce alongside Justified creator Graham Yost.
What do you think about the possibility of seeing Tarantino directing episodes of the Justified revival?
