Quentin Tarantino Says KILL BILL VOL. 3 is in the Cards and it Could Happen in about 3 Years
Quentin Tarantino fans would love to see the filmmaker team back up with Uma Thurman for a third Kill Bill movie. Well, Tarantino is keeping the hope alive by saying that the sequel is “definitely in the cards.”
While a guest on Andy Cohen Live, the director was asked if Kill Bill Vol. 3 is a film that still could happen and this was Tarantino’s response:
"Well I just so happen to have had dinner with Uma Thurman last night, we were at a really cool Japanese restaurant.... She was bragging about me, and I was bragging about her, it was a lovely night [Laughs]... Well I do have an idea of what I would do. That was the whole thing, conquering that concept... exactly what's happened to the bride since then, and what do I want to do. Because I wouldn't want to just come up with some cockamamie adventure - she doesn't deserve that. The Bride has fought long and hard. Now I have an idea that actually could be interesting - I wouldn't do it for a little bit though... It would be like at least three years from now or something like that. But look, it is definitely in the cards."
So, it’s possible that in around three years we could see Kill Bill 3 happen. As of right now, Tarantino is keeping himself busy with planning to write a book, develop a play, and develop a TV series before directing his 10th film. You can read more about those projects here. He’s also still developing that R-rated Star Trek film as well.
While Tarantino has said he will retire after he’s made his tenth film, I don’t think that’s going to happen. When previously talking about Kill Bill Vol. 3, the filmmaker said, “I’ve wondered what happens to the Bride 10 years later, 15 years later, what happens to her daughter.” He also had this to say years ago:
“I wouldn't be surprised if The Bride made one more appearance before the whole thing is said and done. I've been talking to Uma about it just a little bit. Some of the stuff that I've written and never made it into the movie that maybe I could use and thinking, 'OK, now, thirteen years later, what would be going on with Sofie Fatale, what would be going on with Elle Driver?'
The thing that does attract me to the idea — and I wasn't too attracted to it before because I felt like I said what I had to say, and I kind of liked the idea of Beatrix Kiddo living out the rest of her life in peace, to some degree — I think Kill Bill is probably my most visionary movie. And that's not me saying how good it is, it's just a very vision oriented movie and I create this world that doesn't exist. Where on planes, there's holders for your samurai sword (laughs).”
I know one story idea that a lot of fans have wanted to see play out in a third film, and that included a story based on the young girl in the brutal kitchen fight scene getting revenge for The Bride killing her mom, Vernita Green.
When pressed by Cohen in the recent interview about what his directorial future looks like, Tarantino admitted that Kill Bill Vol. 3 would be his next film project. But, we’ll just have to wait and see.
