Quentin Tarantino Says That THE SOCIAL NETWORK Is the Best Film of the Decade
It’s fun for movie fans to learn what kinds of films their favorite filmmakers enjoy watching and what movies they think are the best. Quentin Tarantino has a vast knowledge of film and a taste that encompasses all kinds of stories and genres.
During a recent interview with Premiere magazine, the filmmaker was asked what he thinks the best film of the decade is, and he named David Fincher’s The Social Network. His second pick goes to Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
He said, “It’s The Social Network, hands down…It is number 1 because it’s the best, that’s all! It crushes all the competition.” When it comes to Dunkirk, Tarantino said:
“I had an interesting experience with it the first couple of times. The first time I saw it, I don’t know what I was thinking the first time. I just dealt with the spectacle of it all. I couldn’t deal with anything else but the spectacle of it all. I liked the movie, but the spectacle almost numbed me to the experience. I don’t think I felt anything emotional. I was awed by it. But I didn’t know what I was awed by. … It wasn’t until the third time that I could see past the spectacle and into the people the story is about. I finally could see through the trees a little bit.”
I have to say, I wouldn’t have expected Tarantino to choose a film like The Social Network. I thought he would have chosen something a little less mainstream, but hey, a great movie is a great movie and The Social Network is certainly a great movie.
Tarantino also went on to justify his selection by mentioning how he considers Aaron Sorkin one of the greatest writers working today. What do you think? Do you think The Social Network is one of the best films of the decade?
