Quentin Tarantino Talks KILL BILL Prequels and an Animated Vega Brothers Movie After Fortnite’s “Yuki’s Revenge” Release

The surprise release of Quentin Tarantino’s long lost “Yuki’s Revenge” chapter inside Fortnite has movie fans fired up, and it seems the filmmaker is just as energized. The director used the LA premiere of the animated short to open up about how animation might finally give life to projects he once believed were impossible to make.

During a Q&A, Tarantino explained how this new medium sparked his imagination. “I could see some world between [Unreal Engine] and Japanese anime that I could find some happy medium.

“Or, you know, between the things that I couldn’t physically do, like, say, the Vega Brothers movie, or something like that.” For longtime fans, hearing Tarantino talk about the Vega Brothers again is pretty cool.

The abandoned film was a legendary what if for cinephiles. The idea would have brought John Travolta’s Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction and Michael Madsen’s Vic Vega from Reservoir Dogs together in a prequel set in Amsterdam.

Live action eventually became impossible, but animation could finally crack that door back open.

Tarantino also revealed that he has been carrying around more ideas for the Kill Bill universe. “I have a whole Kill Bill idea in my mind but I was wiped out,” he said.

“I like the idea of a Bill origin. And the three godfathers that made Bill: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzo. Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen.”

That’s the kind of world building fans would love to see. Exploring how Bill became the man who shaped the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad could make for a thrilling prequel. His mentors Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzo are also interesting characters, so digging deeper into their influence would be the perfect playground for Tarantino’s storytelling style.

The Kill Bill saga still holds a powerful place in pop culture. Those movies are awesome. The films star Uma Thurman as the Bride, an assassin who sets out to wipe out the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad and their leader Bill after they attempt to murder her and her unborn child.

The cast also includes Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, and David Carradine.

The two volumes originally released in 2003 and 2004 are returning as a single four hour experience titled Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. Fans will get the chance to watch the definitive cut when it arrives in theaters on December 5.

Between Yuki’s Revenge, the possibility of a Vega Brothers animated film, and Tarantino teasing a Bill origin story, the director’s universe is suddenly feeling wide open again! Hopfully, Tarantino actually moves forward on these projects.
