Quentin Tarantino has made some great films in his career, and while he’s an accomplished filmmaker, the guy is also a huge movie fan, and he recently shared that he has the desire to remake Rambo: First Blood. Not necessarily a remake of the Sylvester Stallone movie, but a new adaptation of David Morell’s novel First Blood. Oh, and he would want Adam Driver and Kurt Russell to star in the film.

He shared all of this during an interview with The Big Picture podcast, and he was inspired to want to make First Blood by director David O. Russell. So, I’m sure you’re wondering how that connects. Well, during the podcast, Tarantino talks about David O. Russell, who is the director of films such as American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Fighter. When it comes to The Fighter, Tarantino explained that that movie showed how Russell got “over himself, over being the auteur” and decided to just make “a good movie.” The kind of movie that audiences flock to and be entertained by.

So, with that in mind, Tarantino went on to say that if he was going just to make “a good movie,” and if he wasn’t going to retire after making ten films, he would look at making First Blood. The novel is much different than the film and when talking about it Tarantino said:

“I would do the novel, and Kurt Russell would play the sheriff, and [Adam Driver] would play Rambo. Every time I read [the novel], the dialogue is so fantastic…[The film] would be so good.”

I would totally be up for a First Blood movie from Tarantino, but if he’s retiring after ten films it’s not going to happen. There are so many potential projects that are floating around in the filmmaker’s head! It’s a shame that he only wants to make one more before he’s done.

There’s also Kill Bill: Vol. 3, that Star Trek movie, and in the interview, he even brings up a film for the DC Comics character Sgt. Rock. In fact, he was already offered the opportunity to make that film and said the script was “magnificent.” He explained:

“There’s a really good script that David Webb Peoples wrote for Sgt. Rock’ that I still think about doing that from time to time. I don’t think I will, but I think it’s a really magnificent script and I would do a good job with.”

What do you think about Tarantino wanting to make a new adaptation of First Blood? What do you think his tenth film should be?
