Quentin Tarantino Wants Tom Cruise For His 1969 Manson Film

For some reason, I never really imagined Tom Cruise and Quentin Tarantino ever working together, but it looks like it might actually happen! According to Deadline, Tarantino has talked with Cruise about joining his upcoming 1969 film that will include the Manson family murders as the backdrop, but not the main story.

Tom Cruise is up for one of two of the male leads. Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are also up for roles in the film but it's not clear if any of them are up for the same role. We might see two of them in the film, we might see all three, or we might not see any of them! We'll just have to wait and see.

I would actually love to see Cruise work with Tarantino! There's no doubt that Tarantino would push him to give one of the best performances of his character. I'm a fan of Cruise! He's a solid actor that makes entertaining movies. I especially enjoyed him in his most recent film American Made. That's a character that had a lot of range.

Harry Potter producer David Heyman will also be a main producer on the film, and it will be his first collaboration with Tarantino. They are currently on the hunt for a studio to team up with and apparently, the bidding war is heating up. The report says:

As for the studios, all the majors are in (Fox has been least aggressive, perhaps with all that is going on over there), and add to that list of Sony, Fox and Universal others knocking on the door like Annapurna and Lionsgate for a domestic deal that would require the international sales effort that went intoThe Hateful Eight. Also knocking are several pure equity financiers. The bidding is wide open right now, but a victor will be known before Thanksgiving, for sure, I’m told.

The story was initially rumored to be set in the late '60s-early 70s in Los Angeles and that it would follow the Manson family murders. The initial report described the film as centering "on Sharon Tate, the actress, and wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered by Manson and his followers in 1969." Now we know that the film will be set in 1969 with the Manson Family murders happening in the background of the story. Tarantino is really hoping to get Margot Robbie in the role of Sharon Tate.

I'm sure everything is going to work for this movie and as a long-time fan of Tarantino and can't wait to see what exactly he's planning for this.
