Quentin Tarantino Won't Watch TOY STORY 4 Because TOY STROY 3 Is "One of the Best Movies I’ve Ever Seen"

Quentin Tarantino recently appeared on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast to talk about a wide range of things and during the conversation, he brought up Pixar’s Toy Story franchise and explained that he won’t watch Tory Story 4 because Toy Story 3 is one of the great movies he’s ever seen.

Tarantino said: “I don’t watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the Toy Story trilogy. I think there’s only one trilogy that completely and utterly works to the Nth degree and that’s A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”

He went on to talk about what the franchise has done saying: “It does what no other trilogy has ever been quite able to do. The first movie is terrific, but the second movie is so great and takes the whole idea to such a bigger canvas that it obliterates the first one.

“And then the third one does the same thing to the second one, and that’s kind of what never happens. You’ll see this big jump from the first to the second and they don’t really land the third one.”

Tarantino also brought up the Mad Max trilogy at one point and explained how it failed to land the ending as Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome deflated the franchise after The Road Warrior.

Back to Toy Story, and what makes the third film in the trilogy so good, he said: “In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating.

“But the thing is, then three years later or something, they did a fourth. I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done.”

Yeah, Toy Story 4 was a good film, but it was definitely a step backward and didn’t quite hit the bar that was set by the first three films.

Now we’ve got Toy Story 5 on the way, and like the fourth one, good luck to the filmmakers trying to reach the bar of the original trilogy. I don’t think it will be able to to it, but we’ll see.

Toy Story 5 is being directed and written by Finding Nemo and Wall-E helmer Andrew Stanton.

What do you think about Tarantino’s thoughts on the Toy Story franchise?
