Quentin Tarantino Wrote Full Episodes of BOUNTY LAW, DiCaprio's Fictional Series in ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, and Wants to Make Them

Quentin Tarantino is such a thorough, hands on director that when he’s making a movie that features a fictional TV show, he’s going to go ahead and make the TV show as well. In a recent interview with Deadline, Tarantino mentioned that he decided to finish his two projects that he’s been working on before he starts work on his Star Trek movie. When he was asked what those two projects are, he said:

“Two things I had in mind that I wanted to work on, and I did, during that period of time. I wrote a play and I wrote five episodes of a TV series. It’s Bounty Law.”

The interviewer clarified that Bounty Law is in fact the series Leonardo DiCaprio stars in in the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Tarantino went on to say:

From watching the different old Western shows and everything, I did it to get in the head of Bounty Law. I ended up starting to really like the idea of Jake Cahill, as a character. I really started loving those half hour ’50s Western scripts. The idea that you could write something like 24 minutes, where there was so much story crammed in those half hour shows, with a real beginning and a middle and an end. Also it was kind of fun because you can’t just keep doubling down and exploring. At some point, you’ve got to wrap it up. I really liked that idea. I’ve written five different episodes for a possible Bounty Law black-and-white half hour Western show.

He went on to add:

I can’t imagine Leonardo is going to want to do it. Cast somebody else? If he wants to do it that would be great. I’m not planning on that but I have an outline for about three other episodes. So I’ll probably write about three other episodes and then just do it. Direct every episode. They’re a half hour long. I wouldn’t mind doing it for Netflix but I’d want to shoot it on film. Showtime, HBO, Netflix, FX. But I also like the fact that I built up this mythology for Bounty Law and Jake Cahill.

Dude! This sounds great! Tarantino has more than proved his acting chops with the great westerns Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. I would watch this, no doubt. And if he could get DiCaprio to sign on for it, even better. I can’t wait to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and see Tarantino’s latest masterpiece. Are you excited? Would you be down for a Western series spinoff? Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hits theaters next Friday, July 26th.
