Quirky Trailer and Poster for Indie Canadian Dog Adoption Film THE HEIRLOOM

A trailer and poster have been released for the quirky, indie Canadian film The Heirloom, a sort of romantic comedy about a couple adopting a dog. the film is based in part on director Ben Petrie's own real-life relationship with actress Grace Glowicki.

Aside from co-writing and co-directing the pic, the pair also star in it as well as Eric and Allie, a couple who decide to adopt a rescue dog during lockdown.

The small cast also includes Matt Johnson as a veterinarian, and Leah Doz as his veterinary technician.

The film’s synopsis reads:

The Heirloom follows a control freak who becomes seized by artistic inspiration when he and his girlfriend adopt a traumatized rescue dog (Milly) and begin attempting to train her. A devotedly funny rom-com psychodrama, The Heirloom is a deeply intimate and personal chamber piece about a long-term couple struggling desperately to become a family.

This isn’t your average rom-com about adopting a pet. It really does explore some strange themes and ideas. It looks like a good movie, but more for your film connoisseur than your Hallmark-loving movie-watcher.

Check out the trailer below, and watch The Heirloom in select US theaters in early 2025.
