R-Rated Animated BLOODBORNE Movie in the Works at Sony with Jacksepticeye Producing

Sony Pictures showed up to CinemaCon 2026 with a packed slate, but one announcement hit a very different nerve. Tucked in among its upcoming releases was confirmation that a full-on R-rated animated adaptation of Bloodborne is officially happening.

The brutal, nightmarish action RPG from FromSoftware is finally making the jump to the big screen, and it sounds like Sony isn’t going to hold anything back.

The project is still early, with no release date locked in, but a few key details already paint a clear picture. This won’t be toned down. The film is being developed as an R-rated animated feature, which lines up perfectly with the grotesque creatures, heavy atmosphere, and relentless violence that defined the original 2015 game.

In my opinion, animation might be the best way to capture the sheer madness of Yharnam without compromise. For anyone who’s spent time in that world, you already know what’s coming.

Bloodborne drops players into the decaying Gothic city of Yharnam, where a mysterious plague has twisted its citizens into horrifying beasts.

Hunters roam the streets searching for answers, cutting through nightmare fuel enemies and unraveling something far more cosmic lurking underneath it all. It’s weird, haunting, and unforgettable, which is exactly why fans have been begging for more for years.

One of the more surprising and awesome pieces of this news is who’s producing it. Seán William "Jack" McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye, is stepping in as a producer on the film.

If you’ve watched his content, you know how much he genuinely loves the game, and that passion seems to be driving this project forward.

He shared the news himself in a Reddit post, saying: “Hey guys, I’m Jacksepticeye and as just announced at Cinemacon, Sony Pictures is officially making an animated Bloodborne feature film. I am producing this project and you have no idea how incredibly excited I am to finally be able to talk about it!!

“I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it. I can’t share much about the project right now but man does it feel good to let you all know it’s happening!”

That kind of energy is exactly what fans want to hear. Bloodborne has built a reputation as one of the greatest games ever made, even without a remake, sequel, or modern port. It’s stayed alive purely through its atmosphere, lore, and dedicated fanbase. Bringing in someone who actually understands that obsession could make a huge difference.

Animation duties will be handled by Lyrical Animation, with Lyrical Media co-financing alongside Sony Pictures. That collaboration suggests Sony is treating this as more than just another adaptation.

It’s part of a bigger push into video game properties, with a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie lined up for 2027 and a new Resident Evil film arriving in 2026. Then there’s the Helldivers movie.

Still, this one feels different. Bloodborne isn’t just about action or spectacle. It’s about dread, mystery, and the slow realization that things are far worse than they first appear. If the film can capture even a fraction of that tone, it could be freakin’ awesome.

For now, all we can do is wait. But knowing this project is in development, and that it’s aiming to stay true to the source material, is already a huge win for fans who’ve been wandering Yharnam for years hoping for more.
