RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET Writer Developing 1% HAPPY Comedy Series That Will Address Stigma of Mental Illness
HBO Max is teaming up with writer and actress Dani Fernandez (Ralph Breaks the Internet) and Roy Wood Jr., who worked on The Daily Show, to bring a new comedy series, 1% Happy, to the streaming service. The pair will co-executive produce, with Fernandez writing and starring.
Deadline provides this synopsis:
1% Happy centers around a woman who, after a particularly dark period in her life, is forced to move back in with her estranged father and attend weekly group therapy with a class of oddballs. Showing the funny and relatable sides of Clinical Depression, the series challenges both the stigma of mental illness and the United States healthcare system itself.
This sounds like it could be a good series. I like shows that can address darker topics with humor and frankness. Keep an eye out, and we will let you guys know when we have a cast and a date for 1% Happy.
