Ralph Macchio Opens Up About Possibility of Elisabeth Shue's Return to the Franchise on COBRA KAI
Ralph Macchio recently talked candidly to popculture about the success that the stars and creators have been experiencing with YouTube Premium’s breakout hit series Cobra Kai. They asked about the possibility of seeing the character Ali Mills return to the franchise.
Ali was the girl, played charmingly by Elisabeth Shue, who originally began the rivalry between Daniel and Johnny in the 1984 Karate Kid film. Here’s what Macchio had to say about it:
“No one will confirm or deny that, but they certainly approached [her] and have questioned it. We know that she really enjoyed the show and sees the quality of the show. So yeah, I think the door is open for something there.”
Her character has already been referenced in the series when in season one, Daniel and Johnny were talking over drinks in a bar, and they looked Ali up on Facebook to see what she was up to. Then we were left with the cliffhanger as Johnny was going through a breakdown at the end of season two and he threw his phone, which lit up with the notification that Ali had become Johnny’s friend on Facebook.
Macchio added that the whole story is open for the next season, so there are so many different ways for it to go. He also teases that we probably won’t see a big happy ending slapped onto the storyline just yet, because we still have a ways to go with the story (yay!). Here’s how he worded it:
“There’s a lot of devastation in the end that has to be sifted through, and all these characters have a journey ahead of them. And that’s the whole point. We want to keep this going for many seasons. And to tie it all up [with like, Elisabeth], to get Ross and Rachel together right now — then the show’s over. You have to be careful.”
So true. And I’m glad they’re planning for the long run. I love this show so freaking much. It’s one of my absolute favorites. It’s so funny and well-acted. It’s really fantastic. Macchio went on to mention the Enterprise deal that he and co-star William Zabka have together that includes an awesomely fun ad as their characters going to a dealership and playing in their competitive natural state.
