RAMBO: NEW BLOOD Father and Son TV Series in Development
Looks like we are going to get a Rambo TV series at Fox called Rambo: New Blood. The Network just closed a development deal, and Sylvester Stallone is on board as an executive producer. According to Deadline, there's a chance that Stallone could also star in the series, but that is not set in stone. They do say he's expected to reprise his role, which he has played in all four Rambo movies that have been made. The series is said to center around him and his son.
The series is being written by Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive), and according to the report, it "pays homage to the films, exploring the complex relationship between Rambo and his son, J.R., an ex-Navy SEAL." We've never heard of J.R. before. This is a new character who has not been in any of the movies. It sounds like Rambo is a key player in the series, and I don't see how this series would even work without Stallone as Rambo. There would be no point in doing it.
This isn't the first time that producers have made a live-action small screen attempt at Rambo. Nu Image/Millenium Films and eOne were trying to get it going back in 2013. There have also been attempts to get a fifth film off the ground, but with this series in development, it doesn't look like that movie will happen.
As many of you already know, Rambo did get an animated series in 1986 called Rambo: The Force of Freedom. I used to watch the show all the time, and I loved it as a kid, but damn... it did not stand the test of time.
This series has potential and could be pretty awesome if Stallone actually stars in it. If he doesn't, I don't see any reason to get excited for it.
