Ranking POWER RANGERS Themes Part 3 - Disney Era Part 1
We’ve hit the Disney era of Power Rangers and I feel like there’s a huge shift in the theme songs at this point. I’ve decided to split the Disney era into two which keeps us at four new theme songs to talk about today. One thing that I will say about this group is that they seem to be much better at actually using a minute and not getting too repetitive like the last batch. Be sure to let me know your thoughts on the theme songs in the comments below.
Power Rangers Ninja Storm
This is an interesting theme song. We get a little prologue narration which I don’t know how I feel about. It then kicks into a pop-punk-esque toon very fitting of 2003 when the song came out. At the beginning, there’s even a bit of a flute part that makes it feel a bit more Asian. When it comes to the lyrics, I do like the bit towards the end that references the Wind Rangers and the Thunder Rangers from the season. As for the music, it’s pretty good. It’s very energetic and gets you dancing. It sounds like a song you’d hear when the Rangers are on the comeback and the victory is assured. It’s a decent theme song even if I think the beginning is a bit of a rough start.
Power Rangers Dino Thunder
I get this song stuck in my head so often since I rewatched it. This song is a banger! It goes back to a sound that I would say is closer to what we had in the Wild Force theme song which is still fitting for the time. The lyrics are really good with the verse creating a bit of a scene and then the chorus lines being pure hype about the Rangers being awesome. I love the palm muted rhythm of the guitar in the verse and then it opens up in the chorus like an explosion. The verse is excellent for music in the middle of a fight and the chorus is great when the Rangers are winning. This is an amazing theme.
Power Rangers S.P.D.
I already know many of you are saying this is your favorite at least of this bunch. It’s pretty good. The riff at the beginning is killer! The bass lines in this song are also amazing and it sounds absolutely fantastic. There’s really nothing bad to say about this one either. Great bass lines, killer riffs, and a drummer that won’t stop. It’s not a bad choice if it is your favorite.
Power Rangers Mystic Force
I’m going to come out and say it. I do not like this theme. The year is 2006 and the powers that be have decided to trade in energetic rock songs for whatever you call this. It starts out with something that sounds like it’s from Heroes of Might and Magic and goes into a hip-hop song. The instrumental track is okay at building momentum, but it just repeats itself for almost a minute. There’s next to no variation in the music. The voice is kept at a constant level, too. There’s no energy change in this song to get me hyped. The lyrics are okay, but it also feels more repetitive than the three previous themes and gets very annoying. Plus, this song is terrible for a fight sequence as proved in “Once a Ranger” during Operation Overdrive.
Three of the themes in this batch are decent with two of them being very solid. They can’t all be winners though and that’s very clear here.
