Rapid-Fire Teaser Trailer for Director George Miller's THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING

The first teaser trailer has dropped for director George Miller’s long-awaited film Three Thousand Years of Longing. This is his first movie since Mad Max: Fury Road, and it looks like it’s going to be an insanely wild ride! This first look is a rapid-fire trailer that fires off a ton of visually stimulating footage at your face.

There’s a full trailer coming on Friday, so this is just a little taste of what Miller has created. The movie stars Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, and it’s an epic fantasy romance film that revolves around a genie. The film is based on the short story "The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye" by A.S. Byatt, and this is the synopsis:

Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.

This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.

When previously talking about the film Miller shared, “I see the title of this film as a riddle, and it’s more or less at heart a two-hander, even though it’s way more complex than that. Tilda and Idris are the two characters at the center of this thing. I can’t even decide what genre it is, to be honest. And that’s a good thing. I like to think in these days that to have a chance of people taking notice of what you’re doing, without being overly flamboyant, your film needs to be uniquely familiar. That’s the term I use. The audience is looking for that, something that seems fresh and atypical. In this case, every time I think, oh it’s this kind of film, I say yes but also it’s that kind of film. I would hope that translates into people feeling that what we’re trying to do is interesting.”

Three Thousand Years of Longing will be released in theaters on August 31, 2022. Watch the teaser and tell us what you think!
