Ray Park Will Reportedly Not Return to Play Snake Eyes in New G.I. JOE Film
When it was announced that Paramount Pictures would be developing a new G.I. Joe film that put the focus on Snake Eyes, a lot of fans were hoping to see Ray Park return to reprise the role.
Well, I’ve got some bad news for you. According to /Film, Park will not be back, and producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura explained why:
“Probably not, because we are going to the origin story. As you know in the comic book, you saw his face. And it is, I’ll say, the formation of a hero. So you’ve got to see somebody and it can’t be Ray’s age, unfortunately.”
Well, that’s kind of a bummer. I understand why they won’t be using Park, but I’m sure this news will upset a few fans.
It’ll be interesting to see who they do get to take on the role of Snake Eyes, but whoever it is better know martial arts and be able to kick some ass! It will be interesting to see if they get a big actor to take on the role because it’s not like he’ll be showing his face much once his transition into Snake Eyes is complete.
One of the few mysterious and the more dangerous members of the G.I. Joe Team, Snake-Eyes served as a recon ranger in the jungles of Southeast Asia. All that can be said after that stint is he went on a long sabbatical, most believe it was in Japan. Some say he was training with the same ninja clan that begat Storm Shadow. We know his fighting skills have become more efficient and deadly. Rumors surfaced that when he was recruited into the Joe Team by Hawk, he was hunting rabbits at the time... with his bare hands.
Robert Schwentke (Red) is in talks to direct the film from a script written by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast).
Other than the fact that this will be a Snake Eye’s origin story, we don’t much about the film. I just hope that it ignores the first two films and give the G.I. Joe franchise a fresh reboot like what they did with Transformers and the Bumblebee movie.
What do you hope to see from this new Snake Eyes movie?
