Real-Life Magnetic Field Hoverboard (No, Really)

We’re exactly one year away from the date (10/21/2015) that Marty McFly arrives in the future in Back to the Future Part II, yet we’re still no closer to having flying cars, rehydratable pizza, or 19 Jaws films. However, BTTF's most sought after and hoax-worthy object, the Hoverboard, is now (kind of) a reality. Hendo Hoverboard has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their board that uses four magnetic field inducing engines to levitate. This only gets you about an inch off the ground, but that still counts, right? The other catch is, the board only hovers on non-ferromagnetic surfaces like copper and aluminum. So on top of having to dish out $10,000 for the board itself, you’d have to also build a metal ramp to actually enjoy the thing. If you don’t have 10+ grand lying around, a 5-minute ride will cost you $100, and you can ride it for an hour for $1,000. $299 will get you a developer's kit that comes with one of their engines. A reporter at Engadget got to ride one of these bad boys, and you can read his report here. To see the thing in action, watch Hendo’s Kickstarter video below. As an avid skater, this is something that I’d definitely love to experience. I still have my fingers crossed on those pizzas as well.
