Rebel Wilson Joins The Impressive Cast of the Film Adaptation of CATS
I know how excited you all are about the big screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit Broadway musical Cats, so here’s some new casting news for you!
Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) has joined the all-star cast and will be taking on the role of the old Gumbie cat Jennyanydots.
In Cats lore she’s known to spend her days seeking out the warm and sunny spots where she sits, and sits, and sits, and sleeps as the hours tick by. But when the moon rises, she’s alive and bakes and fries, and teaches the mice “knitting, crocheting and tatting.” On top of that, she employs the cockroaches to be her troop of helpful boy scouts.
Yeah, that sounds like it’s going to be a fun role for Wilson to play. This really is a decent yet weird musical, I just have no idea what to expect from this film version that is being directed by Tom Hooper (Les Miserables).
Wilson joins a huge ensemble cast that includes Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, and Idris Elba.
The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. The plot is actually pretty insane.
The screenplay for the film is being written by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot). Cats opens in theaters December 20, 2019.
