Remakes In Development For The Horror Films CHRISTMAS EVIL and Brian De Palma’s SISTERS
Pressman Film, the production company behind the development of films such as Wall Street, American Psycho, and The Crow, has got several new projects in development including The Crow reboot, Antoine Fuqua’s The Street, which was written by Goodfellas‘ Nicholas Pileggi, and an adaptation of the 1975 Edward Abbey novel The Monkey Wrench Gang, which will be directed by Catfish‘s Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
While they are working on these, they are also looking at developing remakes of the 1980 holiday horror film Christmas Evil and Brian De Palma’s 1972 psychological horror thriller Sisters. These aren’t classic films that most people feel are untouchable, in fact, most general audiences have probably never heard of them before. But, it’s still Hollywood regurgitating old material instead of creating something new.
Christmas Evil was written and directed by Lewis Jackson, it’s described as a “Comical festive frights. A toy-maker who revels in the Christmas spirit suffers a mental break when his work is met with hypocrisy and cynicism and goes on a yuletide killing spree.” The film stars Brandon Maggart, Jeffrey DeMunn, Dianne Hull, and Andy Fenwick.
In De Palma’s Sisters, “Inquisitive journalist Grace Collier is horrified when she witnesses her neighbor, fashion model Danielle Breton, violently murder a man. Panicking, she calls the police. But when the detective arrives at the scene and finds nothing amiss, Grace is forced to take matters into her own hands. Her first move is to recruit private investigator Joseph Larch, who helps her to uncover a secret about Danielle’s past that has them both seeing double.” The movie starred Margot Kidder, Jennifer Salt, Charles Durning, William Finley, and Lisle Wilson.
Another Pressman title that’s under consideration for the reboot treatment is the 1992 crime thriller Bad Lieutenant. In that film Harvey Keitel “is a corrupt cop steeped in gambling debt who exploits his authority to sexually harass teenage girls, embezzle money and abuse drugs. His troubles come to a head when a mob lackey delivers an ultimatum: pay off his debt, or else. His fate appears sealed. But when The Lieutenant learns that a $50,000 reward is being offered to whoever catches a pair of thugs who raped a nun (Frankie Thorn), he jumps at the opportunity, hoping that he can still redeem himself.”
Are you interesting is seeing any remakes of these?
