Remember The CREEPY CRAWLERS Toy Brand!? Well, It's Getting Its Own Movie!

Wow! Hollywood must really be hurting for ideas! Paramount Players has picked up the feature film rights to the classic toy brand Creepy Crawlers from JAKKS Pacific.

There aren't any plot details regarding the film but it will be based on the classic toy molds of all sorts of creepy and slimy bugs. Creepy Crawlers was originally developed by Mattel in the early ’60s and was later revitalized by ToyMax in the ’90s, allowing children to create their own molds for  "Creeple Peeple", "Mini-Dragons", "Eeeks", and more. JAKKS Pacific is the current owner of the brand. I've included a few commercials from each era of the toy brand below.

I have no idea why anyone would want to make a Creepy Crawlers movie. That seems like a bottom of the barrel type brand that they're reaching for. I guess they might make something fun out of it. I'm not expecting much, though. I imagine the story would follow a group of kids who find themselves in a secret lab where they create a bunch of bugs that end up attacking their town.

Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious films) will produce the film with Stephen Berman, chairman and CEO of JAKKS, serving as executive producer.

Paramount is currently in the process of developing a bunch of film projects based on classic toy lines like G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Super Naturals, ROM, Transformers, Visionaries, and more. It seems silly that they are making a film out of Creepy Crawlers, but I guess the toy brand is looking for a big way to get kids to buy their toys!

What do you think about seeing a Creepy Crawlers movie?

Mattel introduced Creepy Crawlers in 1964. A Thingmaker toy consists of a series of die-cast metal molds resembling various bug-like creatures, into which is poured a liquid chemical substance called Plastigoop, which comes in assorted colors. The mold is then heated to about 390 degrees °F atop an open-face electric hot plate oven.
