Remembering Composer James Horner
James Horner, the Oscar-winning composer of Titanic, died yesterday in a plane crash in Southern California. He was in a small single-engine aircraft and was the only person on board at the time of the crash. He was 61 years old. Our hearts go out to his loved ones.
Horner was a prolific composer, churning out iconic scores and making it look easy. His resume was so varied that everyone probably has a different favorite score of his, and since his music will live on forever, I wanted to take a minute and share a few of my favorite pieces of his work.
Many people know Horner's work from Titanic, Braveheart, Avatar, Aliens, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Krull, Cocoon, A Beautiful Mind, Captain Eo, and many, many more, but my personal favorites are from The Rocketeer (my absolute favorite score of his), Field of Dreams, The Land Before Time, Casper, The Mask of Zorro, and An American Tail. Take a look at this clip from Field of Dreams, which is one of my favorite scenes in cinema history:
I'd love to hear from you guys about your favorite Horner tracks below. Rest in peace, sir.
