Renee Zellweger Has Been Cast as Judy Garland in the Film JUDY

Remember when Renee Zellweger used to be one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood? She was going strong for a while there, then all of a sudden we stopped seeing her in movies. When she eventually resurfaced she didn't look like Renee Zellweger!

Well, the actress just landed a big movie role! She will play Judy Garland in a new movie called Judy, which will revolve around the legend’s final concerts in London. Here's a description that was released by Variety:

Opening in the English capital in the winter of 1968 as Garland arrives for a five-week run of sell-out concerts, the movie will also recount the icon’s battles with management, and relationships with musicians and fans.
As the concerts get underway the star of stage and screen is 47 and exhausted, fragile, and wanting to be at home with her kids, casting into doubt whether the shows, at the Talk of the Town nightclub, can go on.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the later life of Judy Garland, but it was incredibly tragic and sad. It sounds like some of that stuff she went through will be explored in this film.

It seems like this will be Zellweger's biggest most high-profile role in a long time and it will be interesting to see how she does. It's definitely a great project for her!

The script for Judy comes from Tom Edge (The Crown) and it will be directed by British stage director and Tony nominee, Rupert Goold, will direct. The film will start shooting next February in London and it will also include some of Garland’s best-known songs.
