After an extended period of silence from Capcom, the much-awaited, highly-anticipated remake of Resident Evil 2 finally got a release date and a brand new trailer. The game was unveiled during today’s PlayStation E3 2018 conference, showing the massive overhaul of the iconic survival horror classic. The remake of Resident Evil 2 is set to release on January 25, 2019.
Besides the release date, fans have long been eager to know how Capcom is going to approach the remake. Especially the highly sensitive topic of camera angles where some fans prefer the classic tank controls of the original games. However, it seems that Resident Evil 2 Remake will feature a third-person, over the shoulder point of view as is standard in recent Resident Evil games except for RE7 that introduced a first-person point of view instead.
As expected, players will still be able to take control of series veterans Leok S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. However, since this is technically a remake of their debut, both characters sport a younger and more innocent look. Remember that this is the first time Leon and Claire will encounter zombies and BOWs in their lives. A nice throwback to a period when Resident Evil characters are just discovering the evil of Umbrella for the first time.
Moreover, the trailer showed a brief glimpse of Raccoon City, which will undoubtedly bring tears to any Resident Evil fan. The feeling of nostalgia is so strong knowing that we will explore the depths of the city once again. The preview also showed other Resident Evil 2 characters such as Marvin Branagh, Ada Wong, HUNK, and Mr. X. There were no signs of series original Jill Valentine and whether the remake will be a combination of Resident Evil 2 and 3 since both games took place in Raccoon City and practically overlapped with each other.
Don't forget to tune in tomorrow at PlayStation Live from E3 Event tomorrow June 12 at 4 PM PDT as Capcom will showcase a live gameplay demo of the game. Resident Evil 2 Remake will be released on January 25, 2018. Although no platforms have been announced yet, it is likely that the game will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
