RESIDENT EVIL Fans Spot Some Fun Leon S. Kennedy Easter Eggs Hidden in the Movie
The new Resident Evil movie may be telling its own story in Capcom’s zombie-infested universe, but fans have started discovering references scattered throughout Raccoon City.
Some of the more obvious Resident Evil Easter eggs include familiar typewriters, herbs, and first aid spray cans. However, Zach Cregger’s movie also slipped in a couple of fun references to Leon S. Kennedy, including one that’s incredibly easy to miss.
The first pops up after Bryan, the unlucky medical courier at the center of the story, reaches Raccoon City and attempts to get the sample needed for the cure to the hospital.
His trip quickly turns into a nightmare as he races down a street while zombies throw themselves from the rooftops. During the chaos, there’s a storefront visible in the background with a fantastic name: “Leon S. Kennedy Guns and Ammo.”
It’s a funny little reference considering Leon is still a rookie cop during this period of the Resident Evil timeline, although anyone familiar with the character knows that guns and ammo will eventually become a pretty major part of his life.
Cregger apparently didn’t even know how the reference got into the movie. According to a journalist from Deadline who asked the filmmaker about it, Cregger wasn’t sure where the Easter egg came from.
Leon apparently gets another shout-out once Bryan finally reaches the hospital. With the main building crawling with zombies, Bryan enters through the underground parking garage and stops there to figure out his next move.
Some eagle-eyed fans noticed that Leon’s car appears to be parked among the other vehicles. One fan on Reddit wrote, "I liked that Leon's car was parked in the hospital. It was a cool Easter egg."
It’s exactly the kind of background detail Resident Evil fans love picking apart. Leon doesn’t need to walk into the frame for the movie to acknowledge that he exists somewhere in this version of Raccoon City.
Between the guns and ammo storefront and his car sitting at the hospital, Leon S. Kennedy has managed to leave his fingerprints on Resident Evil without actually showing his face.
Keep an eye out for both Easter eggs the next time you watch the movie. There are probably plenty more hiding in Raccoon City waiting for fans to find them.
