RESIDENT EVIL Reboot Will Be an Origin Story Set in 1998 and the Cast Has Been Revealed
There’s a new Resident Evil film currently in development that is being directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night). This new film will reboot the franchise, and we got some new story details to share with you today along with the casting announcement.
This movie will be an origin story adaptation of the games, and it will be set in 1998 in Raccoon City. The director said in a statement:
“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.”
I really like the direction that they are taking the story for this movie. Those first two games were so much fun and so scary to play. I also like it being a grounded human story about a small dying American town. One thing that I’ve always enjoyed doing is traveling to small dying American towns and learning about their history. So, a story like this is something that I can totally get behind.
As for the cast, the movie managed to bring together an impressive lineup that includes Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.
The movie will be released theatrically in 2021, and it’s said to kick off “a new universe inspired by storylines and characters from Capcom’s classic Resident Evil games.”
I’m excited about the new Resident Evil movie, and I hope that it ends up being a great and terrifying film!
