Retro Trailer For The 1982 Martial Arts Action Film THE CHALLENGE

This weeks retro trailer is for the crazy cool 1982 martial arts action film The Challenge. The film was directed by John Frankenheimer and it stars Scott Glenn and Toshiro Mifune.

The story follows Rick Murphy (Glenn), an American boxer hired to smuggle an ancient samurai sword to Japan, where he becomes entangled in a long-standing feud between two brothers, Toru and Hideo Yoshida.

The elder brother, Toru (Mifune), is a traditionalist who seeks to preserve the way of the samurai, while Hideo (Atsuo Nakamura) has embraced modern corporate power.

After being captured and brutalized by Hideo’s men, Murphy is taken in by Toru’s dojo, where he undergoes intense samurai training, learning discipline, honor, and the art of the sword.

As the conflict between the brothers escalates, Murphy is forced to choose between self-preservation and standing by Toru’s side in the final battle. What begins as a mercenary job for Murphy transforms into a journey of self-discovery, as he ultimately finds purpose through the samurai code.

The film delivers brutal fight sequences, blending traditional swordplay with 1980s action sensibilities, culminating in a awesome final showdown.

This is actually really fun flick worth watching if you’ve never seen it!
