This week’s retro trailer is for the 1897 film Near Dark, a neo-Western vampire horror film directed by Kathryn Bigelow. The movie blends vampire mythology with a gritty, outlaw-style road movie.

The story follows Caleb Colton, a young man from a small Oklahoma town who has a chance encounter with a mysterious drifter named Mae. After she bites him, Caleb finds himself unwillingly drawn into a nomadic gang of ruthless vampires, including the sadistic Severen and their cold-blooded leader Jesse Hooker.

As Caleb struggles to adapt to their violent lifestyle, he fights to retain his humanity while his family desperately searches for him.

The movie features intense action, atmospheric cinematography, and a unique take on vampire lore, and the cast includes Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen.
