Retro Trailer For The 1993 Action Comedy Film SURF NINJAS
This week’s retro trailer is for the 1993 martial arts action comed Surf Ninjas! The film follows two teenage brothers, Johnny and Adam, who discover they are the heirs to the throne of Patusan, a small island nation.
Raised in California, the brothers are unaware of their royal lineage until they are targeted by the evil Colonel Chi (Leslie Nielsen), a cyborg warlord who overthrew their family. Guided by a mysterious warrior named Zatch (Ernie Reyes Sr.), the brothers embark on a journey to reclaim their kingdom.
Along the way, Johnny hones his natural fighting skills, while Adam discovers he can predict the future through his Sega Game Gear.
The movie is filled with campy humor and and it had a low-budget feel, so of course, it became a cult favorite among 90s kids. The movie capitalized on the popularity of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mortal Kombat, appealing to young audiences with its mix of surfing, karate, and video game elements.
Though it wasn't a box office success, the film is remembered for its goofy charm. Rob Schneider also had a role in the film.
