Retro Trailer For The Wild 1984 Superhero Film SUPERGIRL
This week’s retro trailer is for the 1984 film Supergirl. I thought it would be fuin to take a look back at the original film, with DC Studios release the trailer for the new DCU film earlier this week.
The movie expands the Richard Donner’s Superman movie universe by following Kara Zor-El as she travels from Argo City to Earth in search of the lost Omegahedron, a powerful artifact vital to her home’s survival.
Taking on the human identity of Linda Lee, she attempts to blend into everyday life while confronting the growing threat of Selena, a would-be sorceress who gains dangerous power from the cosmic device.
The movie mixes earnest superhero adventure with wild and whimsical fantasy, giving audiences a very different flavor of Kryptonian storytelling.
While Supergirl was met with harsh reviews and underwhelming box-office numbers when it debuted, its reputation has shifted dramatically over the years. Fans have come to appreciate its bold sincerity, imaginative worldbuilding, and Helen Slater’s endearing take on the Girl of Steel.
What was once dismissed has since found a second life as a cult classic and it’s celebrated for its charm, nostalgia, and the unique place it holds in the era of 1980s superhero cinema.
