Artist James Hance is a non-stop art producing machine. This guy is constantly creating stunning illustrations that capture the nostalgia for the pop culture a lot of us grew up with, as well as geeky things that we enjoy today. One of his latest pieces was inspired by the classic 1985 film, Return to Oz.
I loved this movie as a kid. In case you've never heard of it, the story follows Dorothy, who is saved from a psychiatric experiment by a mysterious girl. Dorothy is called back to Oz where an evil witch and a Gnome King have destroyed everything that made the magical land of Oz so beautiful. Dorothy has to find a way to save Oz and restore it to its former splendor.
Hance really captures the magic of the movie in this illustration that he calls, "May I Call You Mom, Even If It Isn't So?" It features Dorothy, who was played by Fairuza Balk, and a character named Jack Pumpkinhead, who was a favorite of mine in the story.
