Review: A Strong Start for B: THE BEGINNING SEASON 2 SUCCESSION
After three years of waiting, B: The Beginning is back and beautiful. While the animation and quality of the whole anime are as good as ever, the six episodes are somewhat shallow which leaves fans probably wanting more now more than before.
The second season takes place relatively soon after the first season ends. Basically, enough time for things to go back to normal after the last season’s endeavors. We are introduced to a number of new faces while still have just about everyone coming back from the first season. While the RIS takes a back seat, the new characters do a great job filling in the screen time. All the characters are well-acted in English and in Japanese, and the writing for the characters is just as good, if not better, for a few of them in the second season. The biggest problem with the actual story is that it feels terribly short and somewhat rushed. Even then, Season 2 seems to set up for Season 3 instead of being a standalone story. They were completions of a few story arcs, but they mostly seem like set-ups for the following seasons. I could see this being problematic since fans have already waited such a long time for more episodes and are now given a short and abbreviated experience.
Even though there are a few shortcomings from the story and length, the animation production is probably one of the best in the Netflix anime genre. The excellent combat choreography flows beautifully in each fight. The expressive faces and beautiful character designs combine to make an extremely visually pleasing show. I wish there were a bit more creativity and depth in the music, but it serves its purpose well enough.
B: The Beginning Season 2 Succession is a great continuation of the story, but feels a bit incomplete when compared to last season. While it may be a bit thin on plot, the animation and great characters still make this short season extremely engaging and entertaining from start to finish.
