Review: AMSTERDAM is Incredibly Entertaining and Christian Bale Steals The Show
Think what you will about David O. Russell and his checkered past, but the guy is one hell of a talented filmmaker that knows how to tell a great story. That’s why actors continue to want to work with him! He managed to bring together an incredible ensemble cast for his latest film Amsterdam led by Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington, and they all delivered some of the best performances of their careers.
Amsterdam is an incredibly well-made film that had me hooked from start to finish. I loved the story, and the characters that filled it were developed with perfection. Russell has made some great films over the course of his career, but this one is easily one of his most entertaining. It’s not his best film as a filmmaker, but I sure did enjoy the ride the film takes us on.
The story is set in the 1930s, and it follows three friends who witness a murder. They become the suspects, and in an attempt to clear their names, they uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history and set out on a mission to stop it.
Some of the things that made this movie so damn fun was the quick and witty dialogue along with the unique and wild situations that the characters found themselves in as the story played out. It was quite a crazy adventure.
This movie would not be as great as it was without the talented cast of actors who filled it. While everyone gave stellar performances, Christian Bale is the one that stole the show. He gave a perfect performance. In fact, I think it’s one of the best of his career. Bale has given some amazing performances over the course of his career, but I just thoroughly enjoyed this character he played! It was a truly lovable character that the audience can root for.
The cast for the film also includes Anya Taylor Joy, Rami Malek, Chris Rock, Robert DeNiro, Zoe Saldana, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Shannon, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola, and Taylor Swift.
For those of you looking for a fun, wild, and adventurous flick to watch, go check out Amsterdam.
